TennGreen Land Conservancy is proud to partner with our friend Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show to raise awareness for conserving the Nashville Highland Rim Forest. Check out the official music video for his latest release, “Highland Rim,” below.

“The official music video of my song, ‘Highland Rim’ is out now! It’s more important now than ever to protect places like Highland Rim. Be sure to follow TennGreen to learn more about what you can do to help,” Secor said for the song’s release this December.

Nashville’s Highland Rim Forest alone is one of the largest intact urban forests on the planet. This critical habitat has become a priority for our conservation work, and we’re proud to partner with Ketch to raise awareness for this critical cause,” added Jon D. B., Naturalist and Director of Communications for TennGreen.

TennGreen is dedicated and determined to protect our remaining wild and open spaces, conserving our heritage through working land agreements called conservation easements, and by creating new parks and natural areas for all of us.

‘TennGreen is working every day to protect the Highland Rim’

“From the headwaters of the Big Swan to the hollows and springs that feed our region, TennGreen is working every day to protect the lands that make the Highland Rim so extraordinary,” lauded Alice Hudson Pell, Executive Director of TennGreen.

“In just the past few years, we’ve permanently conserved more than 1,300 acres at the Big Swan Headwaters, safeguarded the rich forest of Dry Fork Hollow, and protected the 100-acre Basin Spring property in Williamson County.”

Here in Nashville, “We’ve also conserved the Belle Forest Cave and West Meade Waterfall properties alongside expanding Metro’s Beaman Park—each a vital piece of the Nashville Highland Rim Forest,” Hudson Pell continued.

“These places are irreplaceable. They shape our identity, our wildlife habitat, our water, and our future. We’re grateful to partner with Ketch Secor and the Old Crow Medicine Show team to elevate the importance of conserving this remarkable, expansive corridor of Tennessee, and we invite our neighbors to join us in ensuring these lands remain wild and thriving for generations.”

‘Highland Rim’ by Ketch Secor

Lyrics:

Hello Highland Rim
Coursing round my city
Standing for a long old time
Full of mystery
You seen it all before, so I’m wondering
Will you show me the way
Down your trail to the place
Where the birds fly away to be free

Hello string picker
Well, you’re singing mighty fine
I’ve heard em just like you
They didn’t want to climb
Up here’s on my back where I could show them a sign
Guide the way
Down the trail to the high lonesome place
Where the birds fly away to be free

Hello Highland Rim
You’re looking mighty fine
Shaking off the winter months
And ringing in springtime
I’d like to ask you something if you don’t mind
See I get full of dread all these worries in my head
Makes my wings feel as heavy as lead

Hello string picker
Well that’s a heartfelt lament
But time has a way of making straight all roads that once were bent
From high up here it’s pretty clear that all is vanity
But there’s a season to everything
Stick it out strum and sing
With the birds and fly away to be free

Well thanks a lot Highland Rim
Can I come back again
Take my rest ‘neath your green shaded trees

Anytime I don’t mind
I’m here for all to climb
Where the birds fly away to be free
