Pleasant Farm
Through a fruitful partnership, Wolf River Conservancy and TennGreen Land Conservancy protected two critical areas: Lagrange Point and Pleasant Farm. Completed in July 2024, Pleasant Farm connects directly to West Tennessee’s Wolf River and is critical to the recharging of the Memphis Sand Aquifer—the grand feature West Tennesseans rely on for their drinking water.
Pleasant Farm added 118 acres to over 1,800 acres of land protection within the Wolf River Wildlife Management Area (WMA). This acquisition was made possible through generous funding by the Heritage Conservation Trust Fund and the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA).
As with the other WRC partnership project, Lagrange Point, Pleasant Farm falls within the critical areas TennGreen aims to protect through our Strategic Land Conservation Plan (SLCP). It also ranks in the top 1% of critical areas in need of conservation by Wolf River Conservancy. The property ranked 32nd most important in the Wolf River watershed in WRC’s own SLCP, making it 32nd out of over 10,000 properties assessed and placing it in the top of the 99th percentile for conservation priority.
Within Pleasant Farm, both old and existing channels of the Wolf River provide 1.7 miles of riverine habitats when the water is at the median high-water mark. The entirety of this property rests within the Memphis aquifer’s recharge zone.
Here, high concentrations of woody wetlands—dominated by bald cypress and water tupelo trees—filter floodwaters while recharging the Memphis Sand Aquifer. Waterfowl also flock to this property with areas to wade, dabble, and thrive alongside abundant reptiles and amphibians—including the alligator snapping turtle, a proposed federally threatened species.
Pleasant Farm and everything within is protected in perpetuity as part of the Wolf River Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Both the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were critical partners in the completion of this acquisition.

“Partnership projects, like these latest with WRC, help the conservation movement do more—faster—by pooling resources, connections, and expertise, all while ensuring every dollar goes even further. I am beyond proud of and grateful for TennGreen’s partnerships throughout Tennessee.”
