Interior Dog Cove

PROJECT PARTNERS Open Space Institute, Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation

TDEC purchased Interior Dog Cove with the assistance of TennGreen. Through a generous donation of $30,000, Tenn Green provided these funds as match for the acquisition.

In 2018, TennGreen Land Conservancy purchased an important 76-acre inholding in the Dog Cove State Natural Area (SNA). Located on the western flank of the Cumberland Plateau, Dog Cove SNA offers a bit of a “lost in time” experience to those traveling along Lost Creek Road in White County. Crossing over Lost Creek, generations of Tennesseans have witnessed the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Cove opening up, surrounded by vast hills and mountains. Lost Creek flows south out of Dog Cove to Lost Creek Falls, which is part of the Caney Fork River Watershed. Acquisition of this Interior Dog Cove tract enables Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to expand existing state-owned and managed land at Dog Cove and provide more recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.

This collaborative acquisition is one of many between TennGreen and TDEC in the Mid-Cumberland Wilderness Conservation Corridor. Comprised of natural and scenic wonders, the 55,000-acre corridor links Virgin Falls, Scott’s Gulf, and Fall Creek Falls State Park to Bledsoe State Forest and the Boy Scout’s Latimer High Adventure Reservation.
